Hardwood & Softwood
What’s the difference?
Surprisingly, it has nothing to do with the density of the wood. A hardwood isn’t always hard, et vice versa.
Hardwoods & softwoods are actually differentiated by their seeds. The seeds of a hardwood have some sort of covering, like an apple or an acorn. As such apple and oak trees are both considered hardwoods.
Softwoods on the other hand, let their seeds fall to the ground with no outer layer to protect them. Commonly known softwoods are ash, birch and fir.
